Overview

What myPOS offers UK businesses

myPOS is best known for standalone terminals: each device connects and takes payments on its own, so you don't need to pair it with a phone or tablet. That makes it a practical fit for people who work away from a fixed counter.

The range runs from a compact pocket reader to Android smart terminals with built-in printers, plus a reader-and-dock combination for businesses that work both in a shop and out on the road. myPOS also offers Tap to Pay on a phone and online payment tools as separate capabilities.

Compared with the other partners we work with, myPOS leans towards simple, device-led card acceptance rather than full EPOS systems or large integrated software platforms.

Ways to take payment

In person, online and remote

Not every channel comes with every package. Here's what's included, what's a separate product and what depends on your plan.

In-person card payments

Included

Chip & PIN, contactless and mobile wallets on myPOS terminals.

Tap to Pay on a phone

Separate product

A separate myPOS capability; device and eligibility requirements apply.

Online payments and payment links

Separate product

Offered as separate myPOS tools rather than part of a terminal.

Telephone / mail-order payments

Depends on plan

Card-not-present acceptance depends on the tools and approval in your agreement.

Full EPOS with stock and staff management

Confirm in quote

myPOS focuses on terminals; confirm any POS needs before choosing.

The full cost

What affects what you'll pay

myPOS uses different transaction pricing structures depending on turnover and transaction type. Card-present payments (where the card is tapped or inserted) and card-not-present payments (online or over the phone) are usually priced differently, so your processing profile matters as much as the device you choose.

  • Your card mix: debit, credit, commercial and international cards are often priced differently.
  • Monthly turnover, number of transactions and your average transaction value.
  • Whether payments are taken in person, online, by payment link or over the phone.
  • Hardware needs: how many devices, which model, and whether you rent or buy.
  • Any POS software, apps or gateway services you add on top of card acceptance.
  • Contract length, notice periods and any cancellation or exit conditions.

Preferential pricing

Access preferential payment rates through Merchant Collective.

We work with established payment providers to help businesses explore competitive, partner-negotiated rates that may not be available through standard public offers. We compare suitable options against your business needs, helping you understand the available terms before you decide whether to switch.

Eligibility depends on your business and the provider's terms. We can't guarantee a specific rate or that every quote will beat a direct offer.

Access to funds

How myPOS settlement works

When a customer pays, the payment is first authorised (approved), then settled to your myPOS account within the myPOS ecosystem. myPOS advertises fast access to transaction funds in that account.

That isn't the same as money arriving in an external bank account. Moving funds out to your bank is a separate transfer, and its timing depends on myPOS's terms and your bank.

A myPOS account comes with the service, but we'd treat it as a place your card takings land — not as a replacement for a traditional business bank account or somewhere to pay everyday bills from.

Contracts

Commercial terms to understand

  • 01Terminals can usually be bought outright; rental arrangements may also be available, subject to suitability and the agreement.
  • 02Buying usually means a one-off cost with more flexibility; renting spreads the cost but may come with a minimum term. Compare the total over the time you expect to use the device.
  • 03Bespoke transaction terms may become available at higher processing volumes. Whether they apply depends on your business and the agreement.
  • 04Ask about hardware warranty, replacement and what happens if you stop using the service.

Beyond the payment

Reporting, support and features

On-device reporting

Smart terminals such as Flex and Ultra show sales information directly on the device.

Tips and refunds

Handled from the terminal on the smart models.

Digital receipts

Email, SMS or QR-code receipts on the Go 2, reducing the need for paper.

Online account

Transactions can be reviewed through myPOS's online account tools.

Suitability

Who could myPOS suit?

Market traders and pop-ups

The Go 2 is small, standalone and sends digital receipts, so there's nothing else to carry.

Mobile tradespeople

Take payment on the doorstep or on site the moment the job's done.

Independent retailers

Ultra or Go Combo give printed receipts at the counter, with the option to go mobile.

Cafés and small hospitality

Flex handles tips and refunds on the device without a full POS setup.

Businesses avoiding long terminal rentals

Buying a device outright may suit merchants who want to keep commitments low.

Key strengths

  • Standalone devices that don't need a separate phone or tablet.
  • A clear device ladder from simple reader to printing smart terminal.
  • Well suited to mobile and pop-up trading.

Trade-offs to weigh

  • Not a full EPOS system — businesses needing stock, staff or table management may prefer an integrated POS.
  • Settlement speed applies within the myPOS ecosystem; external bank transfers are a separate step.
  • Pricing structure varies by transaction type, so online-heavy businesses should compare carefully.

When an alternative may fit better: If you need inventory, staff management or a full till, compare Clover, Elavon's EPOS options or Worldpay 360. If most of your sales are online, Worldpay eCommerce or Elavon's gateway plans may be more relevant.

Questions

myPOS: common questions

Do myPOS card machines need a phone?

No. myPOS terminals are standalone devices that connect and take payments on their own.

Which myPOS terminal prints receipts?

The myPOS Ultra has a built-in printer, and the Go Combo prints from its dock. The Go 2 uses digital receipts.

Is the myPOS account a business bank account?

It's where card takings are settled within myPOS. We don't recommend treating it as a replacement for a traditional business bank account.

Possibly. We can explore partner-negotiated terms where available, depending on your business and eligibility. We can't guarantee a particular rate.
